CI/CD & SCM Specialist
About Modelon
Modelon is revolutionizing the engineering design industry by offering technologies and services that enable customers to leverage system simulation. Modelon’s flagship product, Modelon Impact, is a cloud system simulation platform that helps engineers virtually design, analyze, and simulate physical systems. Our team brings deep industry expertise and is dedicated to guiding our customers in creating innovative technologies at their respective organizations. Headquartered in Lund, Sweden, Modelon is a global company with offices in Germany, India, Japan, and the United States. We believe that system simulation should be accessible to every engineer and are dedicated to being an open-standard platform company.
About the role
We are looking for a proactive and technically strong CI/CD & Source Control Specialist with deep experience in Jenkins, GitLab, and Subversion (SVN). Your main mission is to enhance and modernize our CI/CD pipelines, introduce automation, and improve how our build, test, and release processes operate across the organization.
You will still play a key part in understanding and documenting the existing environment — but the core focus is on building, optimizing, and automating pipelines, enabling development teams to deliver faster, more reliably, and with higher quality.
Working in a small, high‑tech organization means you will collaborate closely with developers, internal IT, platform engineers, and security, contributing both hands‑on engineering and strategic improvements to our build and SCM ecosystem.
Key responsibilities
Jenkins environment analysis & documentation
- Analyse and map existing Jenkins (but also GitLab and SVN) setups to understand dependencies and operational flows and identify technical debt, risks, bottlenecks, and improvement opportunities
- Produce structured, maintainable documentation covering architecture, workflows, and operational routines with pipelines, jobs, plugins, agents, credentials, integrations, triggers, and dependencies
- Share knowledge and help internal teams understand new and improved CI/CD workflows
CI/CD pipeline development & automation
- Design, build, and optimize CI/CD pipelines primarily in Jenkins and GitLab CI
- Introduce automation that increases reliability, and improves productivity
- Modernize existing long‑running, complex pipelines into more efficient, scalable, and maintainable workflows
- Implement best practices for build orchestration, test execution, caching strategies, and artifact handling
- Improve consistency and standardization across teams’ pipelines
- Support future modernization initiatives, including potential migration from legacy systems
Cross‑team collaboration
- Work with developers to understand how Jenkins, GitLab, and SVN support current development cycles
- Collaborate with internal IT on hardware, networking, and environment-level dependencies
- Participate in evaluations of future CI/CD or SCM platform directions
Knowledge transfer & long‑term maintainability
- Build clear, standardized documentation for internal teams
- Provide insights that support informed decision-making for modernization or migration
- Help foster a long-term sustainable CI/CD and version control environment
What we’re looking for
Core skills
- Deep hands-on experience with Jenkins (pipelines, plugins, administration)
- ~ 5 Years of Experience in the related area
- Practical experience with GitLab and GitLab CI/CD
- Solid understanding of Subversion (SVN), including architecture and repository management
- Solid experience in automation of CI/CD workflows
- Strong Linux knowledge and general network understanding
- Proficiency in relevant scripting (Bash, Groovy, Python)
- Experience documenting complex technical systems
- Ability to work independently and structure exploratory/investigative tasks
Nice to have
- Experience with Git migration projects
- Knowledge of Kubernetes and container-based CI environments
- Postgraduate or Undergraduate in Computer Science and Engineering
- Exposure to cloud platforms such as Azure or AWS
- Experience with Artifactory or other artifact repositories
- Experience supporting or mentoring internal technical teams
Why this role matters
You will create the baseline understanding required before any major modernization or migration can happen. Your work forms the ground truth for both short‑term improvements and future strategic decisions across CI/CD, source control, development workflows, and cloud readiness. You will start the work of creating a paved path with automated workflows.
